At the fall coference of DNUG (Deutsche Notes User Group = Gernam Notes User Group), we will present FOF to a broader public for the first time. The conference takes place from November 3rd to 5th 2008 in Dortmund, Germany.

Welcome to the FOF project website!

What is FOF:
FOF is an ancronym and means Foconis Object Framework, which is a framework for object-oriented software development using LotusScript. It is licensed under the GNU GPL.

Why use FOF:
Object-oriented programming languages such as JAVA make it easy for developers to create stable, extensible and easily maintainable software by using approved design patterns.
For realizing object-oriented features such as reusability, real polymorphism, type safety or the use of design patterns, LotusScript is lacking essential features: being nothing more than a kind of "Basic with classes" it comes without elements like interfaces, exception handling, static class methods and many more.
In order to get rid of these constraints "Foconis Object Framework" (FOF) has been developed. By now, all new and revised products of Foconis AG are based on this framework which is freely available under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL).
Where it is reasonable, design and used technologies are similar to JAVA and therefore make it easier to switch between the languages. We hope to establish an active community for freely available and combinable class libraries.

The first part of our series of articles was published in the online edition on Thursday, February 12th. We are currently working hard in finishing the next parts and translating all the documentation. Meanwhile, feel free to download our framework (yes, it's free!) and use our discussion board for your comments or questions. We would be happy to learn what you think about the framework and to get your suggestions on what should be improved in future versions.
